A translator's best friend
|

Long gone are the days in which heavy hardcopy dictionaries were the main
source of research for translators. Nowadays, the Internet provides
numerous tools such as electronic glossaries and dictionaries
for a myriad of languages and fields. |
However, these resources are not the main contribution
computers have given to translators. With Computer Assisted
Translation (CAT) tools, we are able to build on our own work. As we
translate, the software records our choices so that any duplicate sections are
translated exactly in the same way. Also, it presents suggestions when similar
passages are found .

No "machine" translation
|
However, this not "automatic" translation.
A computer cannot do anything without the
translator's input. So, the better the translator, the more effective
the CAT tool. Computers are critical for saving time and
work, as well as for ensuring consistency.
